4. Nonfiction writing class with Barbara Davenport.

This class is for people who have a nonfiction writing project they want to start, or one that’s under way. Your project may be a single essay or paper, a clinical reflection, a memoir, long or short, a book, a book proposal, or any of a variety of other possibilities. This class is particularly useful for subject-matter experts: people who know an area well, and have something important to say, but may not be experienced writers.. The specifics of your project and the level of your writing expertise are less important than your commitment to your work.

The class will meet 7-9 pm on Wednesdays. The format will be reading and critique of members’ work in a supportive and constructive environment, with assignments to refine specific skills. The class will be limited to 8 people in order to give close attention to each writer.

Barbara Davenport has published The Worst Loss, Henry Holt. She writes for Citybeat, and she’s regular book reviewer for the Union-Tribune. Her work has appeared in Stanford magazine, UCSD’s Healthwise, and the Christian Science Monitor. She’s conducted a private writing class for two years, and she’s a strong believer in a class’s potential to support and catalyze peoples’ work.

Meets August 27, September 3, 10, 17, 24, October 1, 2008

Fee $200. For more information and to register please contact Barbara Davenport at bbdavenport@cox.net, or 619.284.7601.
