SIMON WINCHESTER, A CRACK IN THE EDGE OF THE WORLD
A Crack in the Edge of the World vividly brings to life the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake that leveled a city symbolic of America's relentless western expansion. This is also an enthralling and informative look at the tumultuous subterranean world that produces earthquakes, the planet's most sudden and destructive force.
Simon Winchester is an author, journalist, and broadcaster. As a foreign correspondent he covered such stories as the Ulster crisis, the creation of Bangladesh, the fall of President Marcos, the Watergate affair, the Jonestown Massacre, and assassination of Egypt's President Sadat, the death and cremation of Pol Pot and, in 1982, the Falklands War. Winchester is the author of twenty books, including The Professor and the Madman, Krakatoa, The Meaning of Everything, and The Fracture Zone. He is an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.
